Crowns And Bridges
Crown and bridge refers to restoration of natural teeth that have been damaged, decayed or lost. A crown may be constructed to restore an individual damaged tooth back to its original form and function while a bridge is utilized to replace one or more teeth. These appliances are also referred as “fixed restorations” as they are cemented onto the tooth as opposed to replacement of missing teeth with removable partial denture.
Crowns and bridges can be fabricated of white metal, gold, metal-ceramic (porcelain fused to metal), all ceramic (metal free) or zirconia.
The disadvantage of bridges is that it requires irreversible drilling of adjacent teeth. Use of implants gives you an option of avoiding damage to the adjacent teeth.
